Say What

By now the news has spattered far and wide, fans flinging it left and right: Jeff Bezos rescues The Washington Post. Just last week someone asked me what I predicted would happen in the newspaper industry. My thoughts, unless something changes and the papers wise up, becoming e-entities, then they will become extinct. Ah, but all is good now, tongue in cheek, cause Bezos will direct the market, set the standard and blow competition out of the water. My only concern is how he’ll handle one world Amazonation. From Shelf Awareness, “For our part, all we can say is that for the people who have called us paranoid about Amazon’s plans for world domination, we rest our case–nervously.” Yep, that’s what peeps are saying…scroll down to the Industry Reactions article, here.

So, have any of you heard about the “Largest Network for Professional Women”? Well, I was recently wooed by the National Association of Professional Women. Flattering, right? Website says membership is FREE! Sounds good…until you Google them plus complaints and discover that they try to sell you a membership. Bids begin a smidge below $1K a year…That’s right! And then, according to YELP, they may go down to $100 sweet ones if you wrangle with the operator. Our conversation didn’t go that low, but it was high pressure, “Which credit card will you use to pay…?” Now, I don’t know ‘bout you all, but this gal isn’t going to be associated with misrepresentation and then auctioning memberships. How would that look? I’ll tell you how. Go to their website to view many a fine lady chatting up the attributes of belonging to their sorority. But I won’t be there. And you know why.
